And it’s not the actual writing. It’s not the grammar.
It’s worrying about what others will think.
There’s a line in writing.
Some come right up against it. Skilled writers usually.
Other come close.
And some are so scared of the line, they don’t push pen to pad. I use to be that way. And I’m re-experiencing that fear now as I write on this site.
What if I want to talk about how a friend made me angry (and then they read it). Or I write about challenges at work (and my teammates read that). Or I talk about the hoards of money I made on my super rare NFT collection (now people know I’m crypto rich). And so on.
However, with writing – and most things in life – there’s usually a way around things. A creative option.
This doesn’t mean I’ll talk about everything (like the remote cabin where I store all my gold), but I’ll talk about most things. Many things. And I’ll come close the line.
But I’ll only get skilled at coming close to the line if I hit publish. That’s what it’s all about. Hitting publish.
PS – An amazing book that really helped me – not just with writing, but will all creative work – is The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield. Game-changer of a book
