My writing philosophy for this site

A bit of backstory

I have an old blog, Break the Fear (BTF), which I stopped updating about 8 years ago (last, real posts were in 2015). I lost steam with BTF this for two reasons. One, the Youtube channel associated with Break the Fear got deleted due to technical reasons. And two, I began focusing and growing LLC University (LLCU). Over the years, I’ve written the equivalent of 15 books worth of content at LLCU, and we have a team of employees. Writing and working on LLCU while also writing and making videos for BTF because extremely challenging. Hence, why BTF went dormant.

However, because so many great things came from BTF (maybe I’ll get into at another time), I want to continue with the same ethos. But I don’t wan to clean up the old site. It’s an older version of myself and it would take tremendous effort to update it. So I started MorningMatt.com (the site you’re on now) as a fresh start. And if there’s any good ideas on BTF, I’ll eventually port them over.

Lessons I’m carrying forward

So now that I’ll be writing on Morning Matt, I have a few lessons I’m going to carry over from my experience with writing for BTF and LLCU.

First, I have limited capacity and limited time (but I want to write).

Publish, darn it, just publish

Publishing is key. “Ship, ship, ship” as we say in the tech world. Just get shit live.

So I need to make my writing work flow have as little friction as possible.

For those reasons, I won’t be writing drafts in Google Docs and doing a lot of editing. Instead, I’ll be writing directly inside of WordPress. My content will have typos. Some articles may veer off from their title. I’m not going to make shit perfect. I’m going to publish shit.

Documenting

Also, I’ll be “documenting, not creating”. Meaning, instead of trying to “create content”, I’m just going to document parts of my life, both business and personal.

So some posts may about fitness and nutrition. Others might be about cars. And another about things I’m thinking about with growing my business. In essence, I’m just going to start publishing shit. And I need to do so in a way that makes me hit the “Publish” as many damn times as possible. Reaching an audience (and growing a website’s traffic) – in the beginning – is a sheer volume game. Just crank shit out. Ship, ship, ship. Publish.

Switching styles

Also, I’ll switch from writing in 1st person (me, my, I) to 2nd person (you, your), to self-talk and inner dialogue… sometimes in the same paragraph. It doesn’t matter. For this site, and for my style, it’s about conveying ideas. Documenting what I’m doing. And hitting that damn “Publish” button (really, so many things are just about hitting the damn “Publish” button).

So there. There’s my first post on Morning Matt. Only took about 10 minutes and I didn’t read what I just wrote. Just job buddy! Great fucking job. Keep it up.

PS – Just realized this page has a blank meta description. Too much friction. Leave blank. Let Google write their own. Optimize pages with traffic later.
